Marcus Gonzalez was born in Brooklyn, NY. As a teenager, he was introduced to the dancing world, and began taking Jazz and Modern classes in a local dance studio. In the streets he was exposed to Freestyle, Hip Hop, and House music. He took to dancing all of these genres with ease and a passion. Soon after being exposed to a variety of American sounds, Marcus developed an ear for Classic Salsa music. From childhood he had been exposed to Latin music, but never took it to heart 'til the early 1990's. This new sound of Salsa Dura created in him the desire to learn Mambo.
In January of 1998, Marcus began training with Carlos Vazquez, owner of 'La Salsa de Hoy Dance Studio'. He then studied with Raymond Colon at 'La Salsa De Hoy' for a period of two years. In 2000 Marcus joined the "Tropical Image Dance Company," directed by Arelis Beato, which led him to perform at various locations throughout New York and New Jersey. In 2001 he assisted Marisol Ramirez at 'La Salsa De Hoy Dance Studio' in coaching Partner Work, which developed and enhanced his ability to lead and instruct a Mambo class. Until 2004 Marcus and Marisol partnered up and performed in every borough of New York City.
Seeking to further explore his passion for dancing, Marcus began taking classes with Eddie Torres in 2001. As a dancer and instructor Marcus continues taking classes to ever improve his Mambo dance expertise.
Dancing is a way of relaxation for him. He exudes an aura of passion, grace, and the divine pulse of life, as the clave rhythm flows through his body. Just watching him brings happiness to the soul! With his unique style of dancing that so many admire, he aspires other dancers to learn and move like him and posses that free spirit.
With support and guidance along the way from family and friends, Marcus is now co-owner of Salsa Salsa Dance Studio.
